Why is Stanford participating? Walk to School Day is a simple activity with tremendous benefits:

  • To experience the most accessible, enjoyable, and effective exercisewalking!
  • To create a cleaner environment – fewer cars mean cleaner air.
  • To teach pedestrian safety and identify safe routes to school.
  • To raise awareness of good or bad walking conditions in our community.
  • Local community leaders, parents, and children will spend valuable time together.
Please join us in focusing on safety, health and livability!

McGavock Cluster Meeting

Greetings,

The McGavock Cluster had a meeting last month and here are a few highlights of the meeting:

  • Greg Patterson is the Director for the McGavock Cluster schools
  • Teachers must submit a monthly report to their Director
  • Metro has about 16 schools with a single sex classroom- (a pilot test)
  • Virtual campus – advance courses not offered at a school, students can take the class online
  • Metro schools missed the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) by 1%
  • Personal Learning Plan (PLP)- monitor students progress – plan follows student each year to the next grade level
  • Cane Ridge High School is opening in 2008

Mike Hendrix (615-366-6272) has a lot of information on fund raisers. Fund raisers that were discuss were:

  • Box top websites
  • Chick Filet
  • Kroger Cares
  • Publix

Other things that are fun for the kids:

  • Field trip to the recycle system
  • TN critters (come to the schools)

I need to let the McGavock Cluster know if Stanford has any problems/issues that the Cluster can help us with. In addition, the Cluster wants to know about the good things or success stories that we have at Stanford.

Please let me know what you want presented to the Cluster from the above request.

Thanks and have a great day.
