Teacher Appreciation Luncheons

Posted in Events, News on August 26th, 2008 by Kim Marie – Be the first to comment

Teacher appreciation luncheons have been a Stanford Montessori tradition for several years now.   If you have not been involved in the past, this is a great way to earn 3 volunteer hours and show our teachers how wonderful we think they are.  This year we are going to shake things up a little by assigning each month to a small group of classrooms.  The theme and date for each luncheon have been selected and are listed at the bottom of the page.  Contact parents for each homeroom will work together to get parent volunteers to cover food donations, paper goods, and set up/clean up duties.  Each homeroom will only be assigned to one month for the entire school year!  Please consider volunteering for this event.  It is an easy way to get some volunteer hours, especially if you have a busy work schedule.   Look for more information about teacher appreciation luncheons when it is your month to host.

THANK-YOU,
Wendy Crow, Stacie Frye and Linda Butts

Dear Parents,
Welcome to the new families that have joined us, and welcome back to our continuing families, It is a tremendous effort to get a school up and running again after summer vacation, but I want you to know that your PTO has been hard at work planning for a great year. They have worked on our “Meet and Greet the Teacher” night, and are responsible for your “BooHoo/Yahoo Party” on the first day of school. I looked at those working and thought about how awesome it is for the returning parents to welcome and assist our new Stanford parents. We hope that everyone has gotten off to a grand start to what promises to be a terrific year. I hope those of you who are new to Stanford will become involved and next year your can be the mentor to new parents.

Your Principal,
Melva Stricklin

Our PTO provides a forum where we can all join together to support Stanford Montessori by providing volunteers to the students, teachers and students to enhance the quality of the educational experience of all Stanford Montessori students.
Through our parents’ support and involvement, our PTO raises funds to purchase additional resources for our classrooms and library and to provide continued Montessori education for our wonderful teachers.
Equally important, our PTO-sponsored family events provide the opportunity for students, parents, teachers, and friends to participate in a caring and sharing environment to show support for our school and the community.
Please share your areas of expertise with us and join our PTO today!
We need assistance with these two immediate vacancies:

  1. Assistant Treasure: Responsible for supporting the treasurer with all financial transactions for the PTO. ALso responsible for money collection and counting for school fundraising and social events.
  2. “Painless” Fundraising Coordinator: Work with committee chair on researching, implementing, and educating our families on programs that offer “free fundraising” dollars back to our school (i.e. Food Lion, Kroger, Upromise, etc.).

If you would like to volunteer to be a part of the PTO in 2008-2009, please contact me via email at vcollins@thinkingahead.com or by phone at 268-7647 or contact Lisa Marasco—utgrits@yahoo.com or 883-5620.

Our spaghetti supper and auction/bid was a great success. Thank you for your donations and participation! Special thanks go out to Ellendales restaurant for providing the great food! Principal Melva Sticklin wrote, “I want to thank you all for your participation in our Annual Pasta Dinner and Auction. This may be my favorite night of the year, and I am glad you were here to share it with me. It was a huge success and brought in a little over $10,000. We have seen a steady increase in the amount earned each year. I believe the baskets get more appealing every year. Thanks to all who donated money, items for the baskets, desserts, and volunteer time. Please be sure and record your time in the Volunteer Book up front so we have an accurate account of the hours that are donated to the school.”

Why is Stanford participating? Walk to School Day is a simple activity with tremendous benefits:

  • To create a cleaner environment – fewer cars mean cleaner air.
  • To teach pedestrian safety and identify safe routes to school.
  • To raise awareness of good or bad walking conditions in our community.
  • Local community leaders, parents, and children will spend valuable time together.
Please join us in focusing on safety, health and livability!
