End of Year is Almost Here!

Hello Everyone!
As we begin to check off the days towards the end of the school year I would like to touch base on a few reminders.
1.  Painless Fund-raising– please turn in the box tops, labels coke tops, etc. before the last day of school.  Some of the box tops will be expiring in June and we want to make sure we get credit for these.  Also, keep collecting these items in the summer.  You can use them for volunteer hours next school year.
2.  Recipes–please send these in prior to the end of the school year.  We are hoping to complete the cookbook over the summer months and if we don’t have enough recipes before summer the project will not be able to happen. For each typed recipe you email to us it will count as one volunteer hour.  Many more recipes are still needed!
3.  Fly Over and Fly Away is Friday May 27.  If you do not have a child participating in this event, please consider volunteering a couple of hours that day and/or the day before.  It is a very special and sweet time for the children and we want it to be as memorable as possible.  Just remember, if you don’t have a child participating this year, you will one day, and you will want the same courtesy offered to you and your child.
4.  Thank You–I want to thank each of you for all the time and effort you dedicated to Stanford this year.  Without you our school would not shine as brightly and our children wouldn’t be so grand.  When we all come together to give of our time and resources, phenomenal things can occur!  Thank your for all of your participation.
And, REST UP, because we have a great school year planned for 2011-2012.
I hope you and your family have a safe and happy summer and I look forward to seeing you next year!

Stanford Ranked 1st Place in Middle TN

Posted: May 10th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: News | 6 Comments »

We have always felt like Stanford was one of the best schools around, and now we have the award to prove it!  Stanford has been designated as a Highly Effective School.  According to the Education Consumer’s Foundation, Stanford ranked 1st place in elementary schools in Middle Tennessee and 7th for the entire state!  Thank you  Mrs. Stricklin, Teachers, Staff and Students for setting out to achieve what we knew to be true! Congratulations to you all–you deserve it!!

PTO Happenings

Posted: April 1st, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: News | No Comments »
Hello Stanford Family & Friends!
I wanted to send out a brief update on a few PTO happenings.
  • April PTO Meeting has been canceled due to the new parent orientation that will be occurring on this night.  The Executive Board will meet at 5:00 and the Committee Chairs and Co-Chairs are asked to meet as well on as needed basis.  Especially if you need to do any planning for the end of the year events.
  • Coke Rewards are now being collected by the PTO as a part of Painless Fund-raising.Coke rewards are found on the lids of 16oz, 20oz and 2L bottles of coke products (coke, sprite, all zero and diet). They can also be found on the inside of the tear off end of 12 and 24 packs. If you would begin to collect and send these in, it is a great way for the school to earn some of the things that are needed.  We know that as the warm weather approaches more of these items will be consumed, especially over the summer months.  So, start building your donations and collecting volunteer hours for next year!
  • Stanford Cookbook will begin to be compiled over the summer months, which means that we need all you fabulous Stanford Cooks to begin to send in your recipes.  It never fails that after a teacher’s appreciation luncheon someone is asking for a recipe.  So here is your chance to brag!! Start sending me your recipes now, any variety, any category–email is the most preferred way to receive these.  We will need about 200 hundred of your BEST and most talked about recipes!
  • Final Touches will be added to our water feature Saturday April 2, at 9:00 a.m.  Please come out for a an hour or so to spread mulch and plant a few flowers around our water feature.   The work will not be hard, but it will be rewarding for the children at our school.  Plus, you can earn your end of the year volunteer hours for this much needed help!
  • Be on the watch, the Monthly Newsletter will be coming shortly to a backpack near you.
  • Don’t forget to record your Volunteer Hours in the volunteer book that is in the front of the office.  Mrs. Stricklin calculates and turns these hours in at the end of each school year so they are important for our “show of support.”
As always, I appreciate all you do to make Stanford the wonderful environment our children have to learn in!
Many Thanks!
Amy Cole

Montessori Middle School

Posted: March 8th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: News | No Comments »
Exciting News for a Montessori Middle School!
Stanford and Hull-Jackson’s fourth grade students have an opportunity to be pioneers. MNPS is committed to starting a Montessori middle school housed in Margaret Allen Middle School on Spence Lane. The 2011-2012 school year will be the beginning of this middle school and will be a school within a school. It will begin with two classes this year. Next year two more with be added and the classes will be multi-age fifth and sixth graders. While the majority of  MAMS students with be traditional middle school students, there will be two classes that will be separate within the school. These classes will be taught by teachers who are either fully trained or working on their training. There has long been a request for a Montessori middle school and this is our chance. Hopefully, this is the year that we begin a new school that our students have a pathway into.
